What are the dangers in using a sauna?

Infrared saunas are generally safe and can be used by anyone. However since the heat is high there is the chance of:

  • Overheating: Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke
  • Dehydration

 

Avoid sauna use completely in the case of :

  1. Stroke (type caused by bleeding into the brain)
  2. Severe aortic stenosis
  3. Recent myocardial infarction (heart attack)
  4. Unstable angina pectoris
  5. Lupus erythematosus, if you are on steroids (interferes with blood circulation)
  6. Brain tumors
  7. A pregnancy (must consult with your doctor)
  8. Alcohol use

 

Avoid sauna use completely unless under the care of a doctor with expertise in sauna detoxification in the case of:

  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Silicone implants
